Miss Marvel

My first post on Ten Ton Gorilla!
It's not Orcs Must Die related, but I did mostly tech work and trap animations. Nothing too interesting. Hope you like it.

The Wheel of Time Trolloc Gear

About a year or 2 ago I created an illustration of a Trolloc based on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time novels. I've been meaning to model this critter since then... figured its about time to get started. I decided to begin by knocking out his weapons... the character is up next.

Max\Zbrush were used for the models... Color added using Photoshop

Game of Thrones pt.8

Better late than never. Here is the art I ended up doing for the theme of Game of Thrones. I had a lot of fun getting back to the swing of things. I changed my mind so many times on the subject matter that I ended up settling on these 2 characters. I originally was going to have Daenerys Targaryen holding a half eaten heart, but figured this would tell the rest of that story. I might go a little less serious next time and just have a little more fun with a different medium.

Game of Thrones- pt.7

Here's a portrait of Drogon, one of Daenerys' dragons. Thanks for looking!

Game of Thrones- pt.6

This was a fun theme to work on. I had a bunch of different ideas but ended up doing a white walker since they seem to be the most mysterious, ominous creatures in the series.

Originally I thought it would be cool to do something like the description in the books where they are described as being white with armor that changes color and skin that looks like bone. I wanted to do a 2D illustration from the perspective of a victim looking up as if he's about to be slaughtered by them.

But I wanted to get something done a little quicker so I went with a zbrush sculpt that resembles the quick glimses in the series premiere on HBO. Having dark, dirty looking skin with no armor and little clothing made them seem much more primal to me..... plus I didn't have to sculpt armor. :)

Once I had a render I was happy with, I painted over a photo for the background and added some texture and detail to the skin and hair in photoshop.

I hope you guys like how this turned out and thanks for checking out our blog!

Game of Thrones- pt.5

Here is my contribution to our Game of Thrones theme, the Hound Sandor Clegane. Thanks for checking it out

Game of Thrones - pt. 4

I've been wanting to get into more environment type of digital paintings for awhile now, so I saw this as a great opportunity to start.

I found a good reference shot of "the wall" online from the official GoT site and thought I'd just do something similar. I then proceeded to watch some environment painting training videos done by Dylon Cole and man did he ever make it look easy. This should be a breeze, right? Noooope. What I found was a new respect for all those guys and gals out there that make this look so easy, hats off to you folks.

Made mistakes, learned many things, had lots of fun and came up with this...

Game of Throne's - pt. 3 : The Night's Watch

Just like Dave said, so many ideas to choose from for this theme.  I decided to do the Night's Watch that guard The Wall.  I hope you guys dig it!

Game of Thrones- pt.2

I got really pumped when Game of Thrones came up for this segment of our art staff's theme given Fantasy is my favorite genre. I didn't have HBO prior to the theme's selection. To get caught up on the series I went ahead and ordered HBO... spending the weekend's evenings catching up with Season 1. Great great show! Reminds me of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series of novels come to life.

At the time that I set out to create my GoT illustration a friend requested a portrait. Well... since I was in the Fantasy vibe I decided to turn her into an elf. Luckily she didn't mind and dug her portrait. Hope you guys enjoy it as well!

The Game of Thrones- pt. 1

The artists at Robot Entertainment used to have ‘theme projects’ over on the RobotEntertainment.com blog section. We did a bunch of different themes like ones for Super Heroes, Saturday Morning Cartoons, Fantasy, G.I. Joe, Clash of the Titans, and robots.

Our first theme for the Ten Ton Blog was a great source of inspiration for me personally. I am shamelessly addicted to the Game of Thrones series. I must have watched every episode at least 10 times. Every character in that show is so rich of personality and well thought out by the author.

One of the first things that came to mind for me was thinking of those characters in a fighting game, similar to a Capcom Street Fighter game, and that what inspired the tone of my submission for the Game of Thrones theme.

The hardest part was picking only 2 characters : )

a Soldier

This past Christmas Holiday my aunt snail mailed me a black and white wallet sized photo of my Dad from 1965. It was his US Army Basic Training graduation photo... sooooo I decided to take illustrating it for a test drive.

Given it was black and white, no Flag depicted in the photo during that era, and overall a fairly poor quality pic I had to roll up my sleeves and do some home work. I researched the uniform hues, my Dad's MOS insignia (Military Occupational Specialty... ie... his job), and other aspects in an attempt to breathe life and maintain authenticity into the final illustration. Admittedly, omitting Old Glory would have been more authentic however more modern military graduation photos have the Flag as a backdrop... so I decided to add it for color\detail interest.

Overall this was a very fun\special personal project. Hope you dig it!

Winter is Coming

Well, it’s 70 degrees here in Texas and feels like spring, so you wouldn’t feel that way because of the actual weather.
I’m talking about dire wolves, dragons, knights, and imps. The Game of Thrones second season is right around the corner and the Ten Ton guys can’t wait to see the saga continue. The art department at Robot Entertainment has been working on all different types of fantasy art for things like Orcs Must Die, and Hero Academy over this last year… and for the first theme on Ten Ton blog, we wanted to spend some time exploring some art from this popular fantasy theme as well.

So stay tuned for Monday the 27th, we’ll be posting a variety of art inspired by the Game of Thrones series.

See you then.

Traps!

Hello!
One thing you'll notice in Orcs Must Die!, is that there are LOTS of traps. Here are the few I had the chance to build for the game.
